Our Story
In 1963, a small group of committed citizens of Augusta decided that the new school should be named for the late Dr. Thomas Walter Josey, and should have as its motto, "Power Through Knowledge". In addition, this group chose the colors Kelly green (power), gold (knowledge), and white (purity) as the school's colors. The eagle (a bird of might) was chosen as the mascot. We very proudly called ourselves the Thomas Walter Josey High School. Notable alumni include such names as Ambassador Larry Palmer, Judge Carl Brown, Dr. Varnell Gaines, William H. Mays III, Dr. Cheryl Evans-Jones, Jimmie Johnson, Richard Roundtree, Deon Grant, Shay Rountree, Ramone Lampkin.

Comprehensive High School with Advanced Placement & Specialized programs focusing English Language Arts and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Micro-Economics, Computer Science, US History, JROTC Air Force, Chorus, Sonic Boom of the South Band, Art/AP Art, Spanish, French and numerous skilled trade opportunities at the Marion E. Barnes Career Center.
The Eagles Honors Academy will focus on developing scholars and leaders. Students will be challenged with rigorous coursework that prepares them for postsecondary success.
Class Rank & Grade Point Average
An official class rank is compiled for each grade that is computed at the end of the year. Averages are carried out to three decimal places and final averages are not rounded. Student’s grade point average (GPA) is based on quality points. Regular high school courses are on a 4.0 scale and Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and College/University courses are on a 5.0 scale awarded for each grade earned. High school student transcripts include the GPA, class rank, and numerical average.

College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is Georgia’s statewide accountability system. The CCRPI assesses how well students are prepared for college and careers, and ensures that schools are focused on improving achievement among all students. The index measures student achievement on indicators such as content mastery, student growth on progress, subgroup performance on closing gaps, and various areas including Lexile performance, attendance, and other academic based measurements.
